YFU's "Coloured Glasses" is a non-formal education workshop program that uses the analogy of cultural filters to help young people develop cultural self-awareness, intercultural competence, and a critical understanding of stereotypes, prejudice, and discrimination. Through simulations, role-plays, and group discussions, participants explore societal issues related to culture and identity, promoting a spirit of solidarity and understanding for diverse perspectives. The workshop concept has developed over more than 25 years through several adaptations. It involves peer-to-peer learning and is rooted in grassroots volunteerism and community building.
Educational Activities

While exchange programs are at the heart of YFU, we also offer a range of additional intercultural learning opportunities. Each of them is grounded in our educational approach and designed to advance our mission, highlighting our expertise in intercultural education.

The Youth Empowerment Seminar (YES) is an annual flagship event organized by EEE-YFU together with a motivated team of around 100 volunteers, involving between 300 and 500 YFU exchange students near Berlin, Germany, at the conclusion of their exchange programs.
Through interactive workshops and discussions, participants explore themes related to active citizenship, intercultural understanding, and global challenges, while also reflecting on their personal exchange journeys alongside peers and volunteers.
The YES empowers young people to build on the insights gained during their exchange or other intercultural experiences, deepen their connection to the global YFU community, and grow into proactive, globally oriented agents of change.
